I tried an experiment to lessen my tendency to get sick or be susceptible to minor infections such as throat, lung and most common ailments for travelers. When you breathe in all kinds of air the tendency to get sick becomes higher. So I tried to hack traveler’s propensity to disease by avoiding meats—yes even fish and chicken.
And it worked!
What are the benefits?
I WAS MEDICINE-FREE
For a whole 12 months or more I did not have to see my pulmonologist, and the only thing I removed was eating meat. Could that be the reason I did not get any bronchitis, upper respiratory tract infection or illness, and any other reason to see my doctor?
When I told this to my doctor, she agreed that maybe I detox-ed without knowing it. It was a great relief not to be on any antibiotic for a whole year! In the past, as I was prone to these infections, she would switch me from one brand or family of antibiotics to the next. “What did I give you the last time?” she would ask as she checks my records. And then I would take the next brand on top of inhalers and steroids.
MY DIGESTIVE PROCESS WAS PROBLEM-FREE
What else happened when I stopped eating meat? I improved my digestion and did not need laxatives or regulators for my digestive system.
YOU FEEL A SENSE OF PEACE AND QUIET
I felt less reactive or aggressive towards stressors. You can also feel other peoples’ energies which when they are hyper, you tend to back down and avoid high energies or aggressive energies. You become calmer.
Maybe Lent is a good time to start going meat-free, and trying it for a few other reasons.
Quieting the soul.
Quieting the stomach.
And making peace with your body by ridding it of substance it can survive without. Try going meatless this season. You may feel a sense of peace and quiet, in addition to the prayerful stance everyone takes this holy time.
